Pillows and Cushions: Level I

In this hands-on class, students learn the basics of pillow construction and how to sew custom cushions for chairs, sofas, window seats and more. Pillows taught include knife edge, knife edge with Turkish corner and bolster. Cushions include a boxed cushion with welt cord and zipper, and a waterfall cushion. Nancy will share how to cover and attach welt cord in one step, using invisible zippers next to welt cord, and how to select the best foam and pillow forms.

pillow forms, foam, and other cushion form products
measuring/templating
calculating yardage
working with pattern motifs, pattern placement, and matching
types of zippers and when to use them
welt cord
finishing techniques
professional methods and tips
Students go home with a large assortment of class samples including pillow forms and foram cushion inserts. Basic sewing experience and some practical knowledge of sewing methods is required to participate in this class.
