Quotes I’m Thinking About This Week:
We suffer more often in imagination than in reality. Some things torment us more than they ought; some torment us before they ought; and some torment us when they ought not to torment us at all. We are in the habit of exaggerating, or imagining, or anticipating, sorrow.
Seneca
As someone who overthinks things on a regular basis, this one hit me particularly hard. I don’t think I ever considered that I was tormenting myself with my overthinking. But that first line, we suffer more in imagination than in reality really made me realize how often I catastrophize things that really aren’t that bad, and sometimes turn out really well. Hmm. Let me think about that for a while! ; )
I hope you have a great week!
